From schoolroom scare contests to witch-filled Digimon mysteries, a selective guide to anime that actually celebrates the holiday.
First, what counts as a Halloween episode?
A supernatural show is not automatically a Halloween show. We separate episodes in which the characters explicitly celebrate the holiday from atmospheric ghost stories that merely feel right in October. That difference matters especially with anime: the holiday might be a school festival, a costume competition or a short detour in a series that is spooky all year.
1. Ouran High School Host Club — Until the Day It Becomes a Pumpkin!
Episode 21 is an excellent entry point because Halloween changes what the characters are doing, rather than merely decorating the background. A campus test-of-courage contest supplies dark corridors and costumed theatrics, but the episode’s stronger trick is using the scares to expose vulnerability and affection. It is one of the warmest choices on this list.

2. Digimon Ghost Game — The Crimson Harvest Festival
Episode 49 is a much stranger proposition. A Halloween celebration gives way to witches and frightening transformations. Ghost Game’s monster-of-the-week instincts make the holiday feel unsafe in exactly the way an October watchlist sometimes needs. This is the stronger pick if you want a little genuine suspense.
3. Digimon Ghost Game — The Doll’s Manor
Go back to episode 4 for an entirely different kind of Halloween story. Decorated spaces, disguises and the lonely nature of a monster shape a mystery that is more sympathetic than it first appears. It also makes a neat double feature with The Crimson Harvest Festival: the same series approaching the same holiday from different emotional angles.
4. Hamtaro — Ham-Ham Halloween
For a softer watch, the Ham-Hams organize their own seasonal costume party. The Halloween Phantom and Wolf-Ham interrupt what should have been a cheerful gathering. The tiny-scale worries and bright costumes make this a good counterweight to Digimon’s darker episodes. Availability of older regional dubs may vary.
5. Soul Eater NOT! — The Beginning of the Nightmare!
The Soul Eater world already loves witches and macabre iconography. The point of this Halloween-adjacent stretch is seeing that aesthetic become a literal festival, with carved pumpkins and student preparation alongside escalating threats. It suits an older audience looking for a more gothic October atmosphere.
A bonus that is spooky, not Halloween
Pokémon’s The Tower of Terror, episode 23 of the original series, belongs on a ghost-themed watchlist rather than a strict list of Halloween specials. Lavender Town and its playful ghost Pokémon evoke the season without celebrating the holiday. We label this distinction in the TV Guide so readers can choose exactly what they want.
